“It’s tough to find the right line,” Melvin said. “You need some sort of tack, you need some sort of stickiness. Rosin in a night game when you don’t have any sweat or anything, does basically nothing so it’s important that they have something, but where do you draw the line?
On Sunday, Wisdom’s homers wiped away a rough early going for Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks. After allowing three runs in the first two innings, Hendricks turned his outing into a quality start. The Giants didn’t score again. San Diego Padres
Presumably, the Astros will eventually get offseason signee Pedro Baez back to help. But in the meantime, Cristian Javier, who has been one of the Astros' top starting pitchers since his arrival last season, has been moved to the bullpen, where he can be used in multi-inning stints. -- Doolittle
“It’s hard to put into words. This really means a lot to me,” Frazier said after the game. “This is something I’ll never forget. This is one of the top moments of my baseball career, playing for your country. It was a packed house. You had to hear the crowd here chanting, ‘USA, USA.’ I had one of my best games in a long time. Now we’ve got a ticket to go Japan. I couldn’t be more excited.”
In a uniquely odd twist, only three active Angels have ever faced Mariners Yusei Kikuchi. That trio would be David Fletcher, Justin Upton and Shohei Ohtani. Clearly, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols have as well, though they are not going to be taking the field for the Halos today. In a fun twist, both Ohtani and Kikuchi attended the same high school in Japan, however, Kikuchi graduated just before Ohtani began attending. They only faced each other twice in the Japanese league, with Ohtani going 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts his rookie season with the Nippon-Ham Fighters. Philadelphia Phillies
"I didn't know it was coming. It was kind of like a 'Talladega Nights' scene where I didn't know what to do," Crawford said after the game. "It was kind of awkward, but it was awesome." Cincinnati Reds

Sunday's loss to the Chicago Cubs wasn't even the worst news of the day for the Giants. Evan Longoria takes home that honor, as the veteran third baseman will be shelved for four to six weeks with a left shoulder sprain one day after colliding with shortstop Brandon Crawford. Detroit Tigers
