ATHOL 鈥?With laws being proposed or passed that limit the rights of the LGBTQ community across the country, the Rev. Candi Ashenden wants them to know there are allies who accept them. This Sunday, the Athol Congregational Church will hold its first Pride event as part of the regular service. Ashenden said the idea came about because several members are part of the LGBTQ community. Sadly, some among the Christian label dont celebrate them, said Ash stanley cup enden. Now more than ever in this cultural time, we need to let folks know that they are welcome here and we see them for who they are. The event will include displays showing the history of the local LGBTQ community, along with several speakers 鈥?including Ashenden, who described her coming out as gay while serving at a church in Orange as an incredibly difficult time. She began receiving hate mail 鈥?enough to fill a shoebox 鈥?and was soon reduced from full-time to part-time. She said this was a condemnation of her actions. It divided the church into stanley cup becher thos stanley botella e accepting and not, she said.Later, Ashenden said a meeting was held where a motion was made to fire her. It failed, but she decided to leave anyway, serving at three other churches, including the Congregational Church in Conway, before being called to Athol in 2017. It was Athol where she first served at the beginning of her work as a pastor 28 years ago. At this church, Ashenden said she can be herself.Join your neighbors and subscribe!Award-winning coverage on breaking Znbi ECE: Diabetes Tied to Higher Dementia Risk
Bradford, Vt. 鈥?Voters in Bradford and Newbury approved a slight budget decrease for Oxbow High School on Tuesday to avoid state penalties for increased per-pupil spending costs. The School Boards proposed $7.1 million budget stanley cup passed by a vote of 199-110. It marks a 1.7 percent decrease over the current years budget and is estimated to decrease the tax rate for residents of both towns.School officials offered to cut one custodial pos stanley website ition, one paraprofessional position and reduce the hours of a music and an art teacher in order to meet spending caps imposed by Act 46, the states new education law. As a result, a total of three full-time positions were eliminated in the budget, which also included a 3 percent salary increase for teachers and an 8 percent increase in health care costs for employees.Under the stanley travel mug budget, Bradford residents will see a 6-cent decrease in property taxes to an estimated 71 cents per $100 of a propertys assessed value. That leaves a home valued at $250,000 with a $1,775 tax bill. The property tax is expected to drop by 3 cents in Newbury to 76 cents, or a $1,900 tax bill for a home valued at $250,000.Act 46 also requires school districts to consolidate into new districts of at least 900 students by 2018. To meet that goal, Oxbow and the River Bend Career and Technical Center are joining the Blue Mountain and Newbury school boards to considering forming a pre-K through 12th grade regional educational district.Join your neighbors and subscribe!Award-winning c
